Hey everyone, could someone with experience on a 1.5 DX help me! I have an 88 and i want to upgrade it with mods, i currently have a OBX Intake and Focuz Axle Back Exhaust. Just give me a list of some stuff. ANd i have some questions:
1) What kind of front strut bar is good for my car?
2) I need a battery, what is a good battery that i should get that will fit in the OEM place and that clears my intake pipe!
3) What do i need to upgrade to a MSD Ignition system? Can someone explain what all the components do? and if its worth it!
4)I want to change my exhaust, is Bolt On better? or can i do a custom Dual Exhaust? Will i lose power if i do a Dual Exhaust?
5) and finally, just please list some mods that i can do!
Thanks!

well I hate to break it to you but a DX engine doens't have too many mods available. The engine isn't designed for power but economical. If you want to mod it, try buying a ZC engine...its a JDM engine that has 130 hp stock and has plenty of mods. It will bolt right in to your stock mounts.

Well, I mentioned the air baffel mod earlier, but thats about all. I'd say you could source down some Si parts like a tranny or intake manifold, but the truth is your auto tranny is gonna suck up the power sooner or later. You best bet would be to keep your eye out for any type of 1.6 engine, then goto a junkyard and find all the parts for the auto to manual conversion, then go from there. Other than what you've done so far you can't get much more outta the 1.5 without spendin alot of money which in the long run could add up to a motor swap.
But to actaully answer a few questions now hehe, the neuspeed strut tower bar is probaly the best but any bar will do if your on a budget. I use to know the name of the battery type that fit really good in civics but I forget right now. MSD ignition, eh you could spend better money twards a small engine swap. Dual exhaust will work but its more of a looks thing ya know, depending on pipe size (i think 2.5 is the ideal ain't it?) you would probaly feel a little power out of that.

Suspenion Mods- More than you can shake a stick at...
Brake mods- I could slow down a buick if needed
Engine mods- Shit I knew I forgot something

1. you can get zc pistons, which should up the compression alittle bit.
2. you can get a header, which will add alot of hp for the 1.5
3. you can get a bull frog head for the 1.5, which should add around 30 hp.
4. yeah get an si intake, that will add a few hp.
5. hi flow cat and a mid pipe since you only have an axle back exhaust.
6. cai if you only have a short ram intake.
7. dont get msd, get jacob ice pak
8. nos
9. denso iridium(however you spell it) spark plugs
10. do they make a turbo for the 1.5? or a jrsc ?
if you get 1-7, id say you would probably get around 140 to flywheel.if you have the 92 hp d15b engine
i said it before, i friend has a 92 civic sedan dx with the stock motor with zc pistions, header, intake, vtec intake manifold and he beat a 2001 civic coupe ex with an intake.
1.5(sohc nonvtec) vs 1.6 (sohc vtec) and its the 1.5 by a car length. no joke

The battery you are looking for is an optima. At least they were making them at one time, however their web site no longer lists one for our hb's. Check at your nearest pepboys, advance, or batteries plus. Easiest thing to do is go to optima's website and find the nearest vendor.

is it ever really finished?!?
